You're Gonna What Now?

We met with a specialist today who is going to be making a soft cast for Owen's ankles. We thought he might need knee braces, but the doctor said he thought these might be a good starting point so we were happy.

Owen, on the other hand had some concerns.

He actually did really well given the situation. We were very proud of him and I think the doctor took a shining to him.

The process was actually pretty cool. He wrapped Owen's ankles with stuff that looked like ace bandages and it hardened immediately and he cut them right back off. They make molds out of those preforms and make a lightweight, flexible cast out of them. The casts will strap on and have a rubber bottom (better than hard plastic on tile) so he can either wear them under shoes or by themselves. We'll see, but we're hoping this helps him out enough to where he doesn't need any braces or surgery down the road. I know it's kind of wishful thinking, but this is where we're at and we think it's a good first, and hopefully only, step.
